Running Shoe Repair shoes in Ho Chi Minh City
A loose sole re-glued at the Foxpro workshop: before and after.
How running shoes fail
Worn outsole
The rubber at the outer heel and the toe wears first while the midsole is still good. We patch rubber onto the worn area, or replace the whole outsole.
Unglued, open sole
The sole lifts off the upper at the toe or along the edge, usually from sweat and repeated washing. Re-gluing a loose sole is 250,000d, clamped in a mould until dry.
Torn mesh, torn heel lining
The toe mesh tears where the big toe pushes, and the heel lining tears where the heel rubs. We patch the mesh, or reline the heel at 450,000d.
Resoling and patching worn running soles
Running shoes almost always wear unevenly: heel strikers wear a wedge off the outer heel, forefoot runners wear through under the ball of the foot. While there is still rubber left, patching the worn area is the sensible job - it costs less and keeps the rest of the original sole; once the tread is gone across the whole sole, the outsole is replaced, 300,000d - 850,000d depending on the model. The midsole foam is never touched.
Re-gluing running shoes with loose or open soles
Sweat, rain and trips through the washing machine break down the glue between the sole and the upper, and the sole opens from the toe or along the edge. The workshop strips the old glue, applies a proper shoe adhesive and clamps it in a mould until dry: re-gluing a loose sole, 250,000d. If the stitching has pulled apart too, add cosmetic restitching at 200,000d.
Patching torn toe mesh and torn uppers
A small hole in the toe mesh, pushed open by the big toe, is one of the most common faults on running shoes. The workshop backs it with a matching piece of fabric or mesh from the inside and then stitches or presses it, so the hole cannot spread; if the tear follows a seam, cosmetic restitching is 200,000d. This job has no fixed price - the technician looks at the tear and quotes.
Relining a torn heel on running shoes
A torn heel lining is close to inevitable on running shoes with real mileage, especially if you run sockless or the shoes are wider than your foot. Heel lining fabric repair is 450,000d and replaces the fabric inside the heel, done on both shoes so the colour matches. Read more: torn heel lining inside the shoe.
Vibram anti-wear protectors for a pair that is still new
A Vibram anti-wear sole protector at 550,000d adds a thin rubber layer onto the original sole, which suits daily trainers with a thin outsole. On carbon-plated racing shoes the workshop advises against a full protector, because added rubber means added weight and a different feel underfoot. Read more: Vibram anti-wear sole protectors.
Cleaning and deodorising running shoes after a repair
Every repaired pair is cleaned before it goes back to you. If the shoes are soaked in sweat, the soles are stained and there is a smell, add shoe cleaning, which is priced separately. See also why shoes smell after cleaning for how to dry them properly.
Nike running shoe repair
Pegasus, Vomero and Zoom Fly carry rubber in separate pads over React or ZoomX foam, so the pad at the outer heel wears first and exposes the foam. Patching that pad stops the wear there. On Vaporfly and Alphafly the workshop only works on the outsole and never removes the carbon plate. See also Nike shoe resoling.
Adidas running shoe repair
Ultraboost and Adizero have a Continental rubber sole glued over Boost or Lightstrike. That rubber loses its tread well before the midsole gives out, so replacing or patching the outer layer keeps the pair running. See also Adidas shoe resoling.
Asics running shoe repair
Gel-Kayano, Nimbus and Novablast use hard rubber at the outer heel to take the landing, with foam over the rest. If you land on your heel, the wear is a wedge at exactly that corner and patching rubber onto it makes the most sense; only when the whole sole is worn does the outsole get replaced. Torn toe mesh can be patched and a torn heel lining can be replaced.
Hoka running shoe repair
Clifton and Bondi have very thick foam soles with rubber on only a few small pads, so once those pads wear through, the road grinds the foam itself and it disappears fast. Patch rubber on as soon as you see foam showing; leave it late and the foam has already dished, so a patch cannot bring the surface back level.
New Balance and Brooks running shoe repair
Fresh Foam and FuelCell from New Balance, and Ghost and Adrenaline from Brooks, use softer rubber for comfort, which wears faster than hard rubber. Their soft uppers also tear at the toe mesh and the heel lining; worn soles, torn mesh and torn linings can all be done in the same visit.
Saucony, Mizuno, On and other running brands
Saucony Triumph and Ride, and Mizuno Wave Rider, are handled like the pairs above: patch the worn rubber pads, re-glue a loose sole, patch the mesh. On shoes with hollow CloudTec soles tend to trap gravel and tear at the edges of the pods, which the workshop cleans out and glues back. Other brands such as Puma, Under Armour, Li-Ning and 361 are welcome too.

Quick answers about running shoe repair
How much does running shoe repair cost?
From the shoe repair price list, which is the same for every brand: re-gluing a loose sole 250,000d, cosmetic restitching 200,000d, heel lining fabric repair 450,000d, resoling 300,000d - 850,000d, Vibram anti-wear sole protector 550,000d. Work with no set price, such as patching torn mesh, is quoted once the technician has seen the shoes, and nothing is done until you agree.
Can a sole worn down on one side of the heel be repaired?
Yes, and this is the most common wear pattern among heel strikers. The workshop glues a rubber patch onto the worn area at the outer heel, the same thickness as the old rubber, so your stride is not thrown off. If the wear has gone so far that the midsole foam is exposed, the whole outsole is replaced.
Can a flattened, dead midsole be restored?
No. Once the midsole foam has lost its bounce after a certain mileage, nothing brings it back - that is the real lifespan of a running shoe. The technician squeezes the midsole and tells you straight: with a good midsole, repairing the outsole is well worth it; with a dead one, keep the pair for walking rather than long runs.
Can carbon-plated shoes like Vaporfly or Alphafly be repaired?
The outsole can: rubber is patched onto the worn pads where the foam is exposed, and loose areas are glued back. The workshop does not remove the carbon plate and does not glue a full sheet of thick rubber underneath, because that makes the shoe heavier and changes the feel underfoot.
Will a patch on the toe mesh show?
Up close the patch is still visible - the workshop does not promise an invisible repair. The method is to back the hole with matching fabric or mesh from the inside and then stitch or press it, so the tear cannot spread when your foot pushes against it.
Torn heel lining - reline it or replace the shoes?
Heel lining fabric repair is 450,000d: the fabric inside the heel of a sports shoe is replaced, on both shoes so the colour matches. Do it while the tear is fresh; leave it and the heel counter rubs your skin, so every run means another blister.
Repair running shoes or buy a new pair?
Repair is worth it while the midsole still has bounce and only the outside is damaged: worn soles, unglued soles, torn mesh, torn heel linings. Once the midsole is deeply creased, cracked or fully flattened, no amount of repair buys the ride back, and the technician will say so rather than let you spend.
