Football Boot Resoling and TF Sole Fitting shoes in Ho Chi Minh City
TF soles waiting to be fitted to football boots at the Foxpro workshop.
Which sole for which pitch
Artificial turf: TF soles
Five and seven-a-side pitches with short turf and rubber crumb. A TF sole has dense rubber studs: enough grip to turn on, without catching in the surface.
Long-pile turf and 11-a-side: AG soles
Taller plastic studs, spaced further apart to bite into long grass. They also work on dry natural grass.
Futsal and concrete: flat soles
Flat rubber with a fine tread and no studs. Indoors or on concrete, studded soles are slippery and hard on your feet.
Fitting TF soles and replacing worn-out studs
Once the studs are worn smooth, your plant foot slips and you cannot get behind the ball. The workshop removes the old sole from the upper, levels the base, picks a TF sole in the right size and shape, then glues, presses and stitches the load-bearing edges. Resoling is 300,000d - 850,000d depending on the sole and how much work the removal takes; the technician looks at the old sole and quotes first.
Fitting AG soles and swapping FG studs for an artificial-turf sole
Plenty of boots are bought in the long-stud FG version by people who spend the whole year on artificial turf. The workshop swaps them for a TF sole or a low plastic-studded AG sole, keeping the leather upper you have broken in. Where the sole is moulded as one piece with the boot and removing it would wreck the upper, the technician says plainly that it should not be done.
Re-gluing soles that have come away at the toe or the edge
Football boots open up sooner than other shoes: the toe takes every strike, the boot is soaked in sweat, and it usually gets washed and dried in hard sun. Re-gluing a loose sole is 250,000d: the old glue is cleaned off, a load-bearing adhesive goes on, and the boot is clamped in a mould until dry. Do not patch it at home with superglue - it goes brittle, opens wider after one match and makes a proper repair harder.
Stitching the sole and the edge so it stays put
Cosmetic restitching is 200,000d: the sole edge is sewn all round in heavy thread so the toe and sides cannot lift again, done after gluing. If you play hard, have it stitched while the sole is still good - it costs less than fixing a sole that has already torn off.
Patching a torn toe, torn leather and a lifting heel
A toe torn open by someone else studs, synthetic leather cracking along the flex line, a heel lining rubbing your foot - all repairable. A tear along a seam is cosmetic restitching at 200,000d, a torn heel lining is heel lining fabric repair at 450,000d; patching a tear in the upper has no set price, so the technician quotes after seeing it.
Cleaning and deodorising football boots
Every pair we resole is cleaned before it goes back. If your boots have been sweating in a bag all week, add shoe cleaning with deodorising; leave it and the mould works into the lining and the insole, which costs far more to put right.
Nike football boots: Tiempo, Mercurial, Phantom
The leather Tiempo is the one most worth resoling: the upper stays soft for years while the studs go smooth. Mercurial and Phantom have thin one-piece soles, so removal has to be careful to avoid tearing the base of the upper; the technician checks before taking the job. The TF sole that goes on is matched for curvature so your stance does not change.
Mizuno Morelia and other soft-leather boots
Sunday-league players keep a Morelia for years because the kangaroo leather moulds to the foot, while the sole goes first. It is a good candidate for a new sole, since the sole is glued on and already has a stitched edge. The workshop removes the old sole, cleans the leather base, fits a TF sole and restitches the edge; faded leather is handled with leather colour restoration at 400,000d - 650,000d in the same visit.
Adidas football boots: Copa, Predator, X
The soft-leather Copa is handled like a Tiempo. Predator and X use close-fitting knit uppers with the sole bonded on, so removal takes longer and the price sits towards the upper end of 300,000d - 850,000d. If the studs are still there and only the glue has opened, re-gluing at 250,000d is all you need.
Kamito, Zocker, Wika, Pan and budget boots
Boots in the few-hundred-thousand to one-million range: the soles wear faster and the toe tends to come unglued within months. The technician will tell you straight - if the boots cost less than a new sole, re-gluing at 250,000d or stitching the edge makes more sense than paying for a sole fitting.
Fitting TF soles to canvas boots for Sunday-league football
A familiar move on Vietnamese pitches: take a light canvas shoe and fit a TF sole to it. The workshop does this, but note that a thin canvas upper can give way at the sole base after a few months of hard play, so have the edge stitched from the start.
11-a-side boots, kids boots and goalkeeper boots
On 11-a-side boots with worn or broken FG studs the whole sole is replaced, because moulded studs cannot be patched one by one. For kids, think about how much the foot still has to grow before paying for a new sole. Goalkeeper boots usually fail at the heel and the sole edge rather than the studs, so gluing and stitching is normally enough.
Football boot sole fitting in Tan Phu and across Ho Chi Minh City
The Foxpro workshop is at 1/56 Nguyen The Truyen, Tan Son Nhi, Tan Phu, open 8am to 6pm every day. Players from Tan Phu and Tan Binh often drop in after the weekend game: bring the boots, and the technician checks the sole, tests the toe to see whether the sole will come off cleanly, and quotes on the spot.
A whole team can send their boots together - just tie each pair by the laces and label them. If dropping by is awkward, choose door-to-door pickup when you book, or send them by courier from another province.
Running shoes and off-road shoes fail differently - see running shoe repair and trail and trekking shoe repair.

Quick answers about football boot resoling
How much does football boot resoling cost?
From the shoe repair price list: resoling 300,000d - 850,000d depending on the sole and how much work the removal takes, re-gluing a loose sole 250,000d, cosmetic restitching 200,000d. Football boots vary enormously in what they cost new, so the technician looks at the pair and says honestly whether a new sole is worth it.
What is the difference between fitting a new sole and resoling?
Among Sunday-league players, fitting a sole means taking the old sole right off and bonding a different one on - usually to move from long studs to a TF sole for artificial turf, or to keep the good upper of an expensive boot. Resoling means fitting the same kind of sole because the old studs are worn out. The work is the same; only the choice of sole differs.
For artificial turf, TF or AG?
Most artificial pitches in Vietnam are five or seven-a-side with short turf and rubber crumb, where a TF sole with dense rubber studs works best: enough grip to turn on without catching. Taller plastic AG studs suit long-pile artificial turf and 11-a-side pitches. Tell us which you play on and the technician picks the right one.
Can I play on artificial turf in FG boots, or do I need a different sole?
You can, but it is hard on both your knees and the boots: long studs sink into the rubber crumb, turning twists the knee, and the studs tear away from the sole sooner. If you only play on artificial turf, fitting a TF sole is better value than buying a new pair.
Can I choose the colour of the new sole?
Yes. The workshop keeps TF soles in white, black, red, grey and blue. Pick something close to the old sole or go for contrast; the technician sends photos of what is in stock in your size before starting.
The sole has come unglued at the toe - re-glue it or replace it?
If the studs are fine and only the glue has opened, re-gluing a loose sole at 250,000d is enough: the old glue is cleaned off, the sole is glued back and clamped in a mould. If the gap runs right around the toe, add cosmetic restitching at 200,000d, because that is exactly where your foot strikes the ball. A new sole is only needed once the studs are worn smooth.
Will a new sole make the boots heavier or change the touch?
Slightly heavier, yes, because a replacement sole is thicker than the moulded original. The touch at the toe does not change, since the upper is untouched. If you are used to ultra-light match boots the technician will say so up front.
Do you collect shoes anywhere in Ho Chi Minh City?
Yes. Choose door-to-door pickup when you book and give your address: we collect in every district and deliver the boots back when the work is done. A whole team can send their boots at once - just tie each pair by the laces.
Send a photo of the sole and we will quote first
Photograph the sole, the unglued area and the size marking, then send them to Zalo 0388665129, and tell us whether you play five, seven or eleven-a-side so the technician picks the right sole.
